Innovating towards sustainable mobility
DronePort, renowned as a hub for innovation and sustainable mobility, provided the perfect venue for the event. Seppe Oyen, spokesperson for DronePort, highlighted the significance of this collaboration: “We are evolving into a living lab for CO2-free mobility, primarily through the air, but partners developing technologies for ground applications can also contribute to new aviation applications. We are proud to partner with the Inoptus Solar Team and gladly support this unique initiative.”
Unveiling the upgrades to the champion car
The main attraction of the afternoon was the reveal of the enhancements made to the championship car, the Infinite. Over the past few months, the team has worked tirelessly to prepare the vehicle for the grueling 4000-kilometer SASOL Solar Challenge from Johannesburg to Cape Town, scheduled for September. The upgrades aim to withstand the race’s extreme terrains and weather conditions.
During a brief demonstration, the solar car drove along the runway of Brustem Airport, showcasing its capabilities. The team also performed an impressive tire change, demonstrating their readiness for the upcoming race. Additionally, guests had the opportunity to view an exhibition detailing the evolution of the solar cars over the past 20 years, as well as a video chronicling the team’s last World Challenge.
The SASOL Challenge in South Africa
The proud world champions are highly motivated to take on the latest challenge in South Africa this fall. They believe the new adjustments to the Infinite will position them for another victory. The outcome will be revealed on September 20th. “We wish them the best of luck,” concluded Oyen.
The event not only celebrated two decades of innovation and success but also underscored the commitment of the Inoptus Solar Team and DronePort to a sustainable future. As the team prepares for their next challenge, their dedication and pioneering spirit continue to inspire and drive advancements in solar technology and sustainable transportation.
