DronePort takes part in the 6th General Assembly of the Alliance for Zero-Emission Aviation (AZEA)

On 27 October 2025, DronePort joined industry leaders, policymakers and innovators at EUROCONTROL in Brussels for the 6th General Assembly of the Alliance for Zero-Emission Aviation (AZEA). As a proud member of the Alliance, DronePort supports AZEA’s mission to accelerate the deployment of electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft across Europe.

A milestone in the AZEA Roadmap

Since its creation in 2022 by DG DEFIS, AZEA has united more than two hundred members from across the aviation value chain, including manufacturers, airports, energy providers, regulators and research institutions. During this sixth assembly, the first version of the AZEA Roadmap was presented by Deloitte and To70. This document outlines the next steps toward implementing Europe’s shared vision for zero-emission aviation and represents a major step forward for the entire ecosystem.

Preparing DronePort for the future of flight

For DronePort, this mission aligns closely with its own strategic direction. On its site in Sint Truiden, DronePort is actively preparing for the arrival of zero-emission aviation through investments in renewable energy capacity, charging systems and operational infrastructure designed to support both electric and hydrogen aircraft. Collaboration plays a central role, with ongoing partnerships involving other airports, technology developers and research institutions.

Building a connected ecosystem

In addition to its role within AZEA, DronePort is also an active member of the Electric Flying Connection (EFC), a European network that promotes cooperation on electric flight and shared infrastructure. This network helps connect pioneering airports and innovators to accelerate the rollout of electric aviation across borders.

Cosmic Aerospace

On the DronePort campus, the Belgian-American company Cosmic Aerospace, one of the resident innovators, is developing a fully electric 24-passenger regional aircraft. This groundbreaking project perfectly illustrates the kind of technology DronePort aims to support and integrate into its future ecosystem.

A frontrunner for electric flight in Belgium and Europe

Through its participation in AZEA and EFC, and through the ongoing development of its site and community, DronePort is positioning itself as a frontrunner in bringing electric flight to Belgium and Europe. The goal is clear: to transform vision and policy into real infrastructure, innovation and partnerships that enable a sustainable future for aviation.
